The Story

KIN is honoured to be selected as the preferred sports event agency to help our client, Singapore Silat Federation, successfully deliver the recently concluded 8th SEA Pencak Silat Championships.

Pencak Silat is a martial art originating from the Malay and Indonesian heritage, traditionally practiced in South-East Asia; constituting four main components: mental spirit, art & culture, self defence, and sports. It can be practiced purely for fitness, for aesthetics or with a focus on martial arts alone.

Between 25 – 27 Feb, Singapore fans were able to catch some 135 athletes and about 107 foreigners in action. 30 of our home-grown athletes competed with counterparts from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam at the OCBC Arena of the Singapore Sports Hub. The competition is seen as a practice for the biennial SEA Games, with this year’s edition to be held in Hanoi in May.

The 8th SEA Pencak Silat championship was split into two sessions daily – afternoon and evening – over the three days. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions and Safe Management Measures (SMM), up to 300 fully vaccinated fans were allowed at each session.

Working very closely with all the stakeholders of the event: SportsSG, Singapore Silat Federation, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Multi-Ministry Taskforce; the KIN team had only 6 weeks to bring the entire event set-up to fruition. As with the ever-evolving Covid-19 pandemic, the team had to be vigilant in the event of unforeseen changes and also be constantly ready to make changes when the need arises. With the onset of the highly transmissible Omicron variant, brakes were stepped on one day before the event with the reinstatement and the strict adherence to the one-meter safe-distancing policy for the mask-on audience. The KIN team had to spring into action to ensure specific seats at the OCBC Arena were blocked out in time.

The team’s attention to details and quick responses to even-changing requirements ensured that the event was safely executed and achieved the desired outcome of bringing sporting events back safely for our country and our community.
