The Story

Castle of Magical Dreams is the new centrepiece castle that replaced Sleeping Beauty Castle at Hong Kong Disneyland on November 21, 2020, as part of the park’s 15th anniversary celebration. The castle was redesigned to pay tribute to 14 Disney Princesses and heroines, including Snow White, Rapunzel, Tiana, Aurora, Merida, Anna, Mulan, Pocahontas and Cinderella.

Our client first reached out in September last year inviting Kin to submit a tender for the project. This tender required overall space planning, design of the exhibition that included design of displays, showcases, and the use of audio-visual multi-media interactives to achieve some of the design elements.

We faced several challenges designing and building this exhibition. For instance, we had to deal with different terms being used for materials as well as different safety rules and regulations. Further, Hong Kong has different weather conditions including typhoons and we had to meet the required safety criteria for the authorities there. Travel restrictions due to the pandemic also made it difficult to get materials into Hong Kong from source countries. There were shipment delays to deal with.

To overcome these challenges and others, we had daily conference calls with our local vendor in Hong Kong. We also got samples into Singapore to test out their efficacy and communicated with the vendor to go ahead if everything was in order.

It was critical that we kept our channels open to communicate with our Hong Kong client as well as vendors there.  Through a consortium of partners with different specialty and skillsets, the project was delivered excellently despite immense challenges.
