The Story
We stepped into an Event Co-Organiser role for The Carry Hope 2025 to help transform charitable initiatives from simple fundraising activities into community-building experiences that create lasting impact. Our co-organiser partnership with Rare Disorders Society Singapore (RDSS) created shared responsibility for the event’s success and helped transform their fundraising initiative into a community-building experience that raised awareness for rare disorders while generating meaningful charitable contributions. This shared accountability created outcomes and deeper investment in long-term success.
The Carry Hope 2025 was an event management success story that brought together 1,200 runners to the Singapore’s Sports Hub while amplifying charitable impact and transformative community experiences.
For Carry Hope 2025, RDSS had three primary objectives that would guide our event management approach: raising awareness about rare disorders, generating funds through innovative methods, and fostering a supportive community for those affected by rare diseases. These goals required creative problem-solving and meticulous coordination across multiple event components.
As Event Co-Organiser, our responsibilities extended far beyond logistical coordination. We became invested stakeholders in the rare disease advocacy mission, bringing our event management expertise to bear on every aspect of event conception, development, and execution. This collaborative approach allowed us to contribute innovative ideas, ensuring that every decision aligned with RDSS’s core objectives and values.
Our event management team began with a comprehensive six-month planning phase, recognising the required deeper strategic involvement than traditional service provider relationships. This extended timeline allowed us to create a multi-phase event structure that included race pack collection over two days in January, followed by the main carnival and run in February.
One of the new aspects of the event was the introduction of the RDSS Art Gallery Fundraising Booth, featuring a live art auction. In this collaborative partnership with RDSS, we helped to create something truly unique. We weren’t just implementing a client’s vision—we actively contributed to the creative development of fundraising strategies that moved beyond traditional donation methods.
Learning from previous years’ feedback, our event management team implemented a revolutionary layout design for the carnival area. We redesigned the entire flow to create an open-concept environment that encouraged natural circulation and spontaneous engagement. The analysis of the venue and strategic placement of high-attraction elements like the art auction booth ensured that participants could easily move between the sporting activities and fundraising areas without feeling overwhelmed.
The OCBC Square at Sports Hub provided an ideal venue for this approach, offering the space flexibility needed to implement our open-concept design while maintaining clear sight lines for both security and engagement purposes.
Environmental responsibility has become a cornerstone of modern event management, and Carry Hope 2025 provided an excellent opportunity to implement sustainable practices that aligned with the community-focused values of the rare disease advocacy movement.
Our sustainability strategy centred on asset reuse and adaptable design elements. Rather than creating entirely new branded materials, our event management team developed a flexible branding system that could be effectively utilised across both the race pack collection days and the main event.
This approach reduced waste while ensuring consistent brand recognition throughout the multi-day experience. The reuse strategy extended beyond simple cost savings. By thoughtfully repurposing design elements, we created a sense of continuity and tradition that enhanced the community feeling RDSS wanted to foster among returning participants.
While attendance figures and fundraising totals provide quantifiable measures of event management success, the true impact of Carry Hope 2025 was captured in the qualitative feedback from participants and stakeholders. The client testimonial we received exemplifies the relationship-building aspect of professional event management:
“Thank you very much for your hard work and dedication to ensure Carry Hope is organised to precision and helping to create that wonderful communal experience. We are thankful and grateful of this partnership and we look forward to the journey ahead to create even better experiences for all our participants to build this community of support for the rare disease community.”
This feedback reflects the emotional resonance that distinguishes exceptional event management from basic logistical coordination. Our team didn’t just execute an event; we facilitated meaningful connections between participants, families affected by rare disorders, and the broader community.
The success of Carry Hope 2025 reinforces our belief that the best events create something larger than the sum of their individual components. Through careful event management that prioritised participant experience, community building, and this project in particular, meaningful engagement with the rare disease advocacy mission, we helped RDSS create an experience that participants will remember and want to repeat. This community-building aspect of event management often gets overlooked in favour of more easily measured metrics like attendance and revenue. However, events like Carry Hope 2025 demonstrate that the relationships formed, awareness raised, and ongoing engagement generated can have impact far beyond the event itself. The rare disease community deserves events that not only raise funds but also celebrate their resilience, foster connections, and demonstrate that they are not alone in their journey.
Thank you Carry Hope 2025 for this strategic partnership. As we continue our event management journey and plan for future iterations of Carry Hope and beyond, we are committed to applying the lessons learned from this collaboration to create even more impactful experiences.
